St. Ephrem Catholic Church has a long tradition of providing a Religious Education class for those with special learning needs.
Children and adults with various cognitive impairments, physical impairments and those who have autism are welcome. The class is open to those from the chronological age of six years and above. You do not need to be a parishioner of St. Ephrem to attend. Tuition cost is $100. In the case of need, arrangements can be made.
It is our philosophy to provide an environment for everyone to come to know God and to know themselves as beloved children of God. In the process, we have grown into a vibrant community of faith, a family, and definitely friends. Gospel skits, activities and projects, and special materials reinforce the Mass, the Sacraments, and basic concepts of our faith. Song and sign help us participate in praising God.
In the process of giving those with special needs a place to own and participate in their faith, they become empowered to also participate at a higher level in their own parishes and in the Liturgy. Sacramental preparation is done at the readiness of each “special disciple.” Throughout the year, we celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation and also the Holy Eucharist. Several outreach activities are provided during the year.
Classes meet on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm, beginning in October and ending the first week of May. Parents often stay to hear what their children are learning and to garner support from other parents.
